This Saturday, Martinsville Speedway roars back to life for the first of two straight weekends of racing in Virginia.
This time, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will invade to crown their 2024 champion in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200, while there will also be a 100-lap Mazda MX-5 Cup Series event. The NASCAR Playoffs will be back at Martinsville from November 1-3, including the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series. But first, the Tour champion will be crowned. Justin Bonsignore enters the weekend up by 10 points on defending series champion Ron Silk for the crown. Bonsignore is a three-time series champion, with his last coming in 2021. Bonsignore enters Martinsville with 44 career Whelen Modified Tour wins, tied for second all-time with Reggie Ruggerio. Silk may have struggled at North Wilkesboro last week, but the driver of the No. 16 did enough to seal the title at Martinsville last year and would love to end the year with a Grandfather Clock. Other names to watch in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event include Matt Hirschman, Austin Beers, Patrick Emerling, Bobby Labonte, Ryan Newman and more. The Mazda MX-5 Cup Series will also be on track, providing a different dose of racing. The anticipation for the event is high - with a total purse of just about $63,000. This is a non-points race for the series, their first ever on an oval track. Fans who can’t make it to the track can see the NWMT season-finale live on FloRacing.TV.
